About Kate
Kate Atchison is a project management-certified consultant and strategic advisor with 14 years of experience designing and scaling equity-centered education and workforce programs. Formerly Associate Director at UMD’s Iribe Initiative and Site Lead for Break Through Tech DC, Kate has led multi-million-dollar DEI efforts, placed hundreds of students in tech internships, and advised organizations on STEM workforce strategy, program evaluation, and partnership development. She brings deep expertise in education systems, nonprofit strategy, and computing equity research to help mission-driven organizations achieve transformative outcomes.
Kate has co-authored publications on diversifying computing through micro-internships, a summer bridge program, K-12 outreach, mentoring, and women in research at technical and education conferences including at the ACM Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) 2024 (View ResearchGate Profile)
Kate has presented at various conferences and symposiums, including ACM-SIGCSE (2019-2024), STEMM Opportunity Alliance (2023), and Equity in STEM Community Convening (2022), focusing on equity in computing education and workforce development.
When Kate is not consulting, she is wearing multiple hats of mom, wife, volunteer, Daisy Troop leader, community advocate, and friend. Kate and her husband, Knowles, make their home in Maryland, where she is the mom of two elementary kids who keep her busy with activities and fun. You can often find Kate traveling with her family, reading the latest fiction release, or exploring a new hobby.
